Friday 4th March - Walk back from Golden Bay

A very early start at uni for Mechatronics followed by a design group meeting with Dr G. After that we had quite a productive group meeting and then I headed back to the residence. I wasn't long in when Karen and Jeff told me they were planning to go either to the shooting range or to Golden Bay. Since it was reasonably sunny (although the sky was cloudy) we decided to go to the beach and then onto the shooting range later. At the beach Jeff went for a swim dispite the sun being behind the clouds. We had a coffee before waiting for the bus. 15 to 20 mins later the bus passed and dispite the fact that I jumped up from the seat at the bus stop the driver just drove on past with no intention of stopping. Karen came up with the great idea of walking back to the residence and so we began our trek. At the first bus stop Karen wanted to stop and catch the bus but Jeff and I managed to convince her to continue. Further along the road Jeff and Karen stopped again at another bus stop but I convinced them to continue, telling them that we'd just go as far as Mgarr [dot above the g]. At Mgarr we stopped in a supermarket to buy a snack for the road. We made it another half kilometer before Jeff woosed out and waited for a bus but Karen and I continued. Further down the road (another 20mins later) Jeff passed us in the bus. We were overtaken by a steam roller (not exactly steam but you get the picture). We overtook it as it had slowed down due to the hill. The slow race between the roller and us continued until the brow of the hill where it switched down a gear and gunned the throttle. We made it back to the residence some 2hours 40mins later having travelled approx. 15km. We were just in time for Gavin's mince and rice dinner of which we had a well deserved second portion.

A map showing the route we took, unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me.
